A Sydney police officer has denied he extorted money from a man to help him beat drugs charges.
The man has told the Police Integrity Commission (PIC) he paid the officer $5,000.
The 50-year-old man, identified as CB4, has testified that in 2001 he was facing serious drug charges when Sergeant Christopher John Laycock approached him and offered to help.
CB4 told the Commission he paid $5,000 to the officer who said he could help him beat the charges.
He paid the money in two instalments.
Sergeant Laycock has denied he took any money from CB4.
CB4 was ultimately convicted and received a suspended gaol term.
